MovoNote is a local-first note-taking app. We value your privacy and aim to minimize data collection. This Privacy Policy explains how MovoNote handles your information.
1. Information We Handle
The current version of MovoNote does not provide cloud accounts, cloud sync, advertising, third-party tracking, or behavioral analytics. We do not actively collect, upload, sell, or access your note content.
The app may process the following information locally on your device:
- Notes, folders, favorites, trash items, and other content you create or edit;
- App settings, sync state, and trusted device records;
- Local keys, device identifiers, request IDs, nonces, and cryptographic proofs used for encrypted device-to-device sync;
- Temporary local network information needed to discover and connect devices on the same local network;
- Contact information, issue descriptions, and logs you choose to provide when contacting support.
2. How We Use Information
We use this information to:
- Save and display your notes on your device;
- Establish trust between your devices;
- Perform end-to-end encrypted sync between trusted devices on the same local network;
- Diagnose crashes, connection failures, or sync issues;
- Respond to support requests.
3. Notes and Local Storage
Your notes are stored locally by default. Unless you choose to use device-to-device sync, MovoNote does not send your notes to other devices or to our servers.
Uninstalling the app, clearing app data, or deleting notes inside the app may remove locally stored data. Please make sure you have any backup you need before doing so.
4. Device-to-Device Sync
MovoNote supports syncing between trusted devices on the same local network. The sync process uses authenticated discovery, request IDs, nonces, HMAC, X25519, HKDF, AES-GCM, and related security mechanisms to establish an encrypted connection.
When you use sync, your note data may be transmitted between devices you select or trust. We do not relay, read, or store your synced content through our own servers.
5. Camera Permission
The app requests camera access only to scan QR codes for device pairing or sync confirmation. We do not store, upload, or analyze camera images.
6. Local Network Access
The app may request local network access to discover nearby devices on the same network and establish device-to-device sync connections. This permission is not used to access personal data from internet servers.
7. Third-Party Services
The current version does not integrate advertising SDKs or third-party tracking SDKs. Operating systems, app stores, or crash reporting mechanisms may process data under their own privacy policies. We do not sell your note content to third parties.
8. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your information with third parties except:
- When you use sync to transfer data to another trusted device;
- When required by law, legal process, or regulatory obligations;
- When necessary to protect users, the app, or the public;
- When you contact support and choose to provide relevant information.
9. Data Security
We use local storage, system-provided secure storage, and encrypted transmission to help protect your data. However, no software or network transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Please keep your device, system account, and device passcode secure.
10. Children’s Privacy
MovoNote is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us using the information below.
11. Your Choices and Controls
You can:
- Disable camera or local network permissions in system settings;
- Delete notes or folders inside the app;
- Clear app data or uninstall the app;
- Remove trusted device records;
- Contact us to request handling of support information you voluntarily submitted.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will make the updated version available in the app, on our website, or through the app store listing. Policy updates will not change our commitments not to sell note content or use third-party advertising tracking unless we clearly explain the change and obtain any required consent.
